Trouble might come in the form of
an engine stampeding out of control.
Or the driver may be having a heart episode,
a seizure, or an alertness fade.
You may have a panicked student driver at the
wheel, confused between brakes and accelerator.
In such an emergency you don't want to
be deciding whether to
grope for the keys in
the ignition switch, hoping not to turn out
the headlamps or running lights,
or try to put the transmission in neutral,
or stand on the brakes.
You mainly
want the engine stopped.
Then you can take take care of the
rest.
The driver, or the front-seat partner,
knows what to do: pull
the CalmitDown™ plug.
The lights remain on, the steering still works.
The transmission is in a known state, probably
Drive, and may help slow the car down now
that the engine is a drag, not a loose cannon or a rocket.
You have time to get safely to the
side of the road.
